Tuition Waivers & Stipends for Education Students

Tulane SoPA students have an incredible opportunity to receive waived tuition as they earn their MAT. In addition, a yearly $5,000 stipend is provided to participate in our induction program that provides additional coaching and support during the residency year and subsequent two years as a certified classroom teacher.

Master of Arts in Teaching Scholarships & Stipends

Students who are accepted into the Master of Arts in Teaching program may be eligible for a full tuition waiver and a $5,000 stipend to participate in the induction program, which occurs during the one year residency and subsequent two years as a certified classroom teacher. In order to be eligible, a student must:

  • Confirm their acceptance into the MAT program
  • Pay the $200 enrollment deposit
  • Complete the SEED participant form. The form includes an additional 500 word essay
  • Sign a contract stating they will:
    • Complete their residency in a New Orleans public school
    • Receive ongoing induction support from a mentor teacher/coach during residency
    • After certification, agree to teach in a New Orleans public school with induction support for two years

Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 each semester to be eligible for the tuition waiver.

Elementary or Secondary Education Coordinate Major Scholarships & Stipends

Students who are SoPA undergraduates and accepted into the Elementary or Secondary Education Coordinate Major may be eligible for a tuition waiver for their eleven (11) education courses and a $5,000 stipend during during the induction program, which includes the one year residency and subsequent two years as a certified classroom teacher. In order to be eligible, a student must:

  • Work with their SoPA academic advisor to declare the Elementary or Secondary Education Coordinate Major (this major is in addition to their primary SoPA major)
  • Complete the SEED participant form. The form includes an additional 500 word essay
  • Sign a contract stating they will:
    • Complete their residency in a New Orleans public school
    • Receive ongoing induction support from a mentor teacher/coach during residency
    • After certification, agree to teach in a New Orleans public school with induction support for two years

Tulane SoPA is a lead recipient of the U.S. Department of Education's (USDOE) Supporting Effective Educator Development (SEED) Grant Program, which aims to recruit and develop the next generation of certified educators in New Orleans public schools. This $10 million grant was awarded to Tulane SoPA and the following partners: Xavier University of Louisiana’s Norman C. Francis Teacher Residency, The New Teacher Project’s (TNTP), teachNOLA, New Schools for New Orleans (NSNO), and Reach University.

The operators of the "NOLA SEED" program partners will recruit and develop 552 knowledgeable, culturally aware, and socially and emotionally competent educators to work in public schools across New Orleans.
