Humanities & Social Sciences Degrees

Humanities & Social Sciences degree programs offered at the Tulane School of Professional Advancement feature interdisciplinary educational approaches to the study of human relationships and practices as the foundation of global societies. While professional trends constantly evolve, an intellectual grounding in the humanities and social sciences provides transferable skills and knowledge that remain a relevant advantage throughout the workforce.

 Master's Degree Programs

For the graduate ready to expand on their interdisciplinary education, SoPA offers a Master of Liberal Arts (MLA). Established in 1983, Tulane's MLA program is aimed at developing critical thinking and communication skills through a tailored program of study built around each student's interests. This program offers traditional liberal arts courses with offerings in literature, philosophy, sociology, history, and political science. Students can attend on-campus courses or combine their in-person learning with additional courses through an online format.

 Bachelor's Degree Programs

SoPA offers two Humanities & Social Sciences bachelor's degree programs:

Bachelor of Arts in Humanities: This path allows students to focus on a combination of interdisciplinary subjects with a curriculum catered to their individual educational and career goals. Courses in humanities cover topics such as language, literature, communication, fine arts, performing arts, urban studies, philosophy, and religious studies. Students can expect to become better communicators, writers, and critical thinkers while developing a greater knowledge of the human experience in preparation for a number of diverse career fields.

Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences: Social sciences majors take a cross-disciplinary learning approach to the study of social practices, cultures, and institutions. Students complete a variety of courses in anthropology, economics, geography, sociology, and history. This course of study is ideal for candidates who are interested in developing their communication and analytical thinking skills necessary for professional growth and active community participation.
