Educational Benefit Programs for Veterans

At Tulane SoPA, we're here to help make sure you have access to all the resources and programs available to veterans, survivors of veterans, and active duty service members. Those who are eligible for veterans educational benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill®, Post 9/11 GI Bill®, or the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Programs can apply through the liaison for Veterans Affairs. Prospective students can also apply for Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance (VA Form 22-5490) through the liaison office.

As a Servicemembers Opportunity College, the School of Professional Advancement is committed to meeting the undergraduate-level educational needs of active-duty and retired military service members. As such, we offer an open undergraduate admission policy focused on a student's academic potential rather than previous educational record, award credit for work and life experiences, and follow the American Council on Education's Military Guide for curriculum and academic offerings.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government website at http://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.

Scholarships for Active Duty and Military Veterans

Veterans and active duty members of the military may receive a 20% discount off tuition for undergraduate and graduate-level SoPA courses.

To receive the 20% reduction in tuition, veterans should provide the school with a DD Form 214, Certification of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. Active military should provide an official letter from the Education Office stating their Active Duty status. Both veterans and active duty military service members must provide a copy of your award letter indicating you have exhausted all of your educational benefits in order to receive this discount. New applicants may upload these documents through the SoPA portal as a part of the admissions process. Current students should email documents to sopa20@tulane.edu with the subject line Military Discount Records.

Yellow Ribbon Program

Tulane SoPA is pleased to participate in the Post-9/11 GI Bill® Yellow Ribbon Program for eligible students enrolling in our master degree programs. SoPA makes an unlimited amount of additional funds available for master’s degree programs without an additional charge to GI Bill® entitlement. To qualify for the Yellow Ribbon Program, students must be eligible for 100% of the Chapter 33 (Post 9/11) benefits. If you have at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service after Sept. 10, 2001, and are still on active duty, or if you are an honorably discharged Veteran or were discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days, you may be eligible for the post-9/11 GI Bill®. The Yellow Ribbon program uses SoPA resources combined with funds from the VA to fill the gap between your maximum GI Bill® tuition benefit and SoPA graduate tuition.

For more information and to complete a Yellow Ribbon application, please visit the Tulane Student Veterans Services website.

Additional Financial Aid for Veterans

In addition to VA benefits, veteran and active-duty military personnel may apply for financial aid in the form of federal loans and grants through the Office of Financial Aid. Available options for those who qualify include a Federal Pell Grant, Federal Direct Loan, Federal Perkins Loan, or a Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG). In order to apply for these benefits, prospective students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Contact the Tulane Office of Financial Aid for more information.
