Digital Design at Tulane SoPA will provide you with the skills necessary to enter the exciting and creative field of graphic design. According to the US Department of Labor,  the graphic design job market is expected to grow 20% by 2026 and you could be in that number. The Digital Design curriculum prepares you for a thriving career in the design space – branding, packaging, print, book and publication design, packaging design, interactive design and so much more!

B.A. Requirements

A Bachelor of Arts Degree in Digital Design with a Graphic Design Concentration prepares students for a deep dive into creative thinking, conceptual development and portfolio creation. We welcome students coming directly from high school or adult learners who may be looking for a career change or to complete their undergraduate degree for the first time.

60 general requirements

Tulane SoPA awards the B.A. in Digital Design following the completion of 120 credits, which includes 42 credits in the major. All students in the Digital Design major take core courses in design foundations and then declare a career track to specialize in either Graphic Design or Interactive UX/UI Design.

Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, students will be required to have a personal laptop or desktop computer to be successful in their courses and the program.

Post-Baccalaureate Requirements

Do you already have a Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design or another field? Our P.B.C. (Post-Bac Certificate) allows you to explore either Graphic Design or Interactive UX/UI and build a competitive portfolio of work. The PBC requires students to complete 10 courses, or 30 total credit hours.

30 major hours

The Digital Design Post-Baccalaureate Certificate (PBC) is designed for individuals who have already earned a Bachelor's degree and want to gain more insight in Graphic Design or Interactive UX/UI Design. These certificates are comprised of all of the coursework required for an undergraduate major in Graphic Design or Interactive UX/UI Design, without required courses in other subjects.

Careers in Graphic Design

Careers in graphic design are expected to increase by 20% over the next 5 years. Whether you are interested in starting your own freelance business or working for an agency, graphic designers are highly marketable in almost any field.

Many designers choose to work ‘in-house’ for a brand they love while others enjoy the fast paced and ever-changing projects that come with working in an agency or design house.

Tamzen Jenkins

After a decades long career in education, Tamzen decided to bet on herself and take a leap to change careers. Already holding an M.A. in English, she went back to school at the age of 31 and completed her P.B.C. in Graphic Design. Tamzen is now a graphic designer for St. Jude Hospital in Nashville, TN and joined the Media + Design faculty in 2022 as an adjunct instructor.

Megan Calvin

Megan double majored in Interactive UX/UI Design and Business at Tulane and now works at IBM Garage, in NYC, providing technology solutions for the business giant’s incubator clients.

“As a UX designer for IBM Garage, I am working directly with developers and architects, leading design thinking workshops with clients, creating ‘wireframes’ and prototypes, user testing, and iterating on these designs to deliver products that meet our clients’ needs,” Calvin said.

Our diverse faculty—comprised of award-winning industry professionals and experts working in the fields of advertising, digital marketing, graphic design, interactive design and public relations—provide students with workforce-aligned curriculum. Our faculty ensure that students are taught the most up-to-date expertise and skills required of their respective industries today.
