Media + Design Student Experience

What’s It Like to Be Part of SoPA Media + Design?

Whether your goal is designing brand identities, building websites, crafting digital ads, or planning PR campaigns, you’ll find at SoPA Media + Design a supportive, innovative environment that nurtures collaboration and creativity.

You’ll connect with equally passionate classmates and experienced professionals who’ll encourage you to pursue your personal goals. Our faculty, active in their fields, bring invaluable real-world insights into their classes. You’ll have access to our exclusive online student hub, design coaches, awards competitions, job boards, career advising, and a range of student-led organizations. Special events and talks by visiting pros—both online and in-person at Tulane University in New Orleans—add even more depth to your learning experience.

If you’re a BA student, the joint capstone project in your final year challenges you to apply your skills to solve real-world communication challenges in a collaborative team setting. This is on top of the service-learning component built into many of our upper-level courses.

With our program’s record of producing award-winning work, you’ll learn, grow, and have fun while building a bright future in media and design.

Join. Engage. Inspire.

We encourage all Media + Design students to join our active student chapters of the national organizations like Public Relations Society of America (PRSSA) and American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA).

Engaging with these organizations is an excellent way to build leadership experience in your field, expand your network, and form lasting relationships. Opportunities include monthly meetings, skill-building workshops, networking with professionals in the field (both in New Orleans and beyond), and attending national conferences, seminars, and webinars.

Service Learning

Service learning is an integral part of the Tulane SoPA Media + Design experience, particularly in upper-level courses. In the Capstone course, for instance, B.A. students link up with a nonprofit to develop an integrated marketing and communications plan that addresses a real-world challenge.

Past projects for the Tulane Institute on Water Resources Law and Policy, Grow Dat Youth Farm, and New Voices New Orleans show how this hands-on approach builds both practical experience and community connections.

At Tulane SoPA, One Size Does Not Fit All

That’s why we offer a mix of daytime, evening, and online classes. Our responsive advisors and experienced faculty help you fit your education into your schedule.
