Our Master of Science in Sport Administration offers two specialized pathways to match your goals. Choose the Athlete Performance concentration to explore strength training, conditioning, and performance optimization, or pursue the Athlete Management concentration to dive into operations, leadership, and the business of sport. If your goal is to work on the field, Athlete Performance is the pathway for you. If you prefer to assist in the athlete's growth off the field, then Athlete Management is the way to go.

Athlete Performance 

The Athlete Performance pathway centers on optimizing athletic output. Students learn how to support athletes in reaching their highest level of performance within their sport through training, preparation, and athletic-focused strategies.

Athlete Management 

The Athlete Development pathway centers on the holistic growth of athletes beyond competition. This pathway prepares students to support athletes as they navigate life beyond sport and prepare for successful careers after their playing days end.

What You Will Learn While Earning Your Master's in Sport Administration

Earning an MS in Sport Administration involves gaining a comprehensive understanding of the best practices in sport administration. Key concepts you'll learn include:

To receive an MS in Sport Administration degree, students must complete seven required core courses and choose one of two pathways: athlete performance or athlete management. Students will complete the 4 courses aligned with their chosen pathway, for a total of 33 credits. Graduate students seeking to enroll in more than nine credit hours per semester require approval from the Program Director. Students must also apply for a degree at the beginning of the semester in which the student plans to complete all required coursework. Applications for degree conferral are now online and will appear in a student's Gibson account when available.

How an 8-Week Term Works

A course taken during an eight-week term covers the same material and earns the same credit as a traditional 16-week course. Classes are offered in an asynchronous format, offering you greater flexibility to accommodate your schedule. This accelerated format lets you focus on shorter classes while staying on track to complete your degree.

Master's in Sport Administration Tuition and Aid

The School of Professional Advancement is more affordable than traditional private university tuition. With limited fees and a 20% tuition discount (if qualified), the cost is on par with many state schools.

Master's in Sport Administration Admissions

Apply anytime—no test scores or letters of recommendation are required.

To be considered for admission into the MS in Sport Administration or one of our graduate certificate programs, a prospective graduate student must have:

  • Earned an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution prior to the first semester of proposed graduate study.
  • At least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average in undergraduate coursework; students with grade point averages below 3.0 may be considered for provisional admission, provided they demonstrate significant professional experience in a relevant field.

Applications to the program must include the following:

  • A statement of 250-500 words discussing interest in the MS in Sport Administration program and how the program will assist them to in achieving personal or professional objectives.
  • Official college transcripts from each college attended.

Applicants may be conditionally admitted and allowed to take one class in their first semester, in which a B or better must be earned to be fully admitted to the program. Students who do not have a 3.0 grade point average in their undergraduate coursework but possess sufficient professional experience in the field may be admitted conditionally into the program.

Students in good standing may petition to transfer a maximum of nine credit hours (three courses) of graduate coursework from other colleges or universities to the MS in Sport Administration degree. However, only courses with grades of B or better, completed within five years of enrolling in the MS program, may be considered for transfer credit.

Graduates of the MS in Sport Studies program are well-equipped for a variety of roles in the sports industry, including Athletic Director, Event or Stadium Security Manager, Sports Marketing Specialist, and Compliance Officer. The program also supports career advancement in areas like coaching, sports medicine, and sport business operations, ensuring students are prepared to meet the growing demands of the industry.

A Unique “Stackable” Certificate Program

You can choose from three options for a graduate certificate within our Kinesiology Program. You can complete each graduate certificate by taking four courses, which can also be used to earn an MS in Sport Studies or a MS in Sport Administration.
