A Higher Education Podcast for Every Student

There seems to be a podcast for everything now, including higher education. Many of these podcasts have great advice and offer a relevant discussion for returning or non-traditional students. Here are three of the best advice podcasts for students.

The College Info Geek Podcast

This is a popular weekly podcast that can vary in scope from general advice to topics more specific to certain careers or areas of study. Hosts Thomas Frank and Martin Boehme provide students with strategies on how to better manage their time, finance their education, and build strong habits. These topics are important for non-traditional students who may have been out of school for a while or are new to higher education.

Getting In: Your College Admissions Companion

Although this podcast may seem like it's geared toward incoming freshmen and high school seniors, many of the episodes have helpful advice for non-traditional students looking to re-enter higher education or those looking to pursue graduate education. Students can hear from admissions experts from the top universities to get the advice they won't hear anywhere else. In one episode, hosts Julie Lythcott-Haims and Parke Muth respond to questions from listeners interested in the admissions process for those who did not attend traditional schools and how that impacts the admissions process.

Admissions Straight Talk

This podcast is great for students looking to re-enter higher education as a means to quickly further their professional career. Every week, host Linda Abraham talks to admissions professionals from graduate programs across the country. This podcast is great for students looking for detailed and candid advice about specific graduate programs. It can be difficult to figure out everything about a program from its website, so getting to hear from their admissions professionals can aid students in their application decisions.

Why Should Students Listen to Higher Education Podcasts?

Higher education podcasts are an engaging way for students to learn about specific programs or universities, learn how to navigate the admissions process, and get more context on topics of interest. Academia can be especially confusing for people not steeped in university life, but, luckily, there are plenty of podcasts to help non-traditional students.
