SoPA Digital Design Students Bring Home 24 Awards

In categories ranging from packaging, special event materials, app design, and animation and special effects, SoPA’s digital design students shined at the 2020 Advertising Club of New Orleans ADDY Awards in February. Review the awards and recipients below.

Awards and Winners

Presented on February 28 at New Orleans’ Orpheum Theater, the 2020 ADDY Awards recognized two dozen SoPA Digital Design students with the following awards:

  • Krystle Weber received a Gold ADDY® and won Best of Show for Woodcut Workshop Invitation in the special event materials category
  • Grady Bell received a Gold ADDY® Award for Nowhere Coffee in the packaging category
  • Lauren deBautte received a Gold ADDY® Award for her Muffuletta Festival illustration in the special event materials category, a Bronze ADDY® Award for her Pompadours Pour packaging in the packaging-single category, and a Bronze ADDY® Award for her Muffuletta Festival poster in the illustration category
  • Anna Toujas received a Gold ADDY® Award for her Panda Conservation workshop invite in the special event materials category and a Bronze ADDY® Award for her Remi web app in the app category
  • Katherine Stern received a Gold ADDY® Award for her Housemates app in the app category, a Gold ADDY® Award for Dove Kids packaging & advertising in the integrated brand identity campaign category, a Gold ADDY® Award for sports playing cards in the illustration campaign category, a Bronze ADDY® Award for Bywater American Bistro designs in the special event materials category, and a Silver ADDY® Award for Energywise logo and stationery in the stationery package category
  • Claude Richard received a Gold ADDY® Award for his Safe Binding Online PSA in the animation or special effects category, a Silver ADDY® Award for his Create Sushi letterforms in the illustration category, and a Silver ADDY® Award for his TRANSistance app in the app category
  • Kathryn Hume received a Bronze ADDY® Award for her Fry and Pie handmade menu in the special event materials category
  • Hannah Gregory received a Bronze ADDY® Award for her Molam Banding in the integrated brand identity campaign category
  • Stacie Pomes received a Bronze ADDY® Award for her Lighthouse Illustration in the illustration-single category
  • Megan Calvin received a Bronze ADDY® Award for her Festival Icon Set in the illustration-campaign category
  • Lauren Andress Ratcliff received a Silver ADDY® Award for her Peristyle Café packaging in the packaging category
  • Nicole Macon received a Silver ADDY® Award for her PJ's Carnival Coffee packaging in the integrated brand identity campaign category
  • Corey Guerra received a Silver ADDY® Award for his Bunnyhop Cyclery Café design in the logo design category

Of the winning entries, 14 advanced to the five-state district competition between other student winners. At the district level, two SoPA students were recognized:

  • Katie Stern, Gold ADDY® Award: Sports Playing Cards; Gold ADDY® Award: Dove Kids Packaging & Advertising; Gold ADDY® Award: Housemates App
  • Lauren Andress Ratcliff, Silver ADDY® Award: Peristyle Café packaging

SoPA Instructor Wins Educator of the Year

In addition to the 24 student awards, Amanda Garcia, Ph.D. was recognized by the Advertising Club of New Orleans with the honor of Educator of the Year for her work with guiding future advertising professionals as the Director of the Digital Design program and a professor of practice at the Tulane School of Professional Advancement.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the Ad Club of New Orleans as Educator of the Year,” said Dr. Garcia. “I am very fortunate to work in a supportive, innovative, and dynamic environment filled with people who are the best at what they do—the success of our program would not be possible without them.”
