“We are so glad that the Advertising Club of New Orleans has recognized Professor Carr with this well-deserved honor,” said Tulane SoPA Dean Suri Duitch. “Our students and her colleagues witness her talent and commitment to SoPA programs and students each day.”
The Advertising Club of New Orleans is part of a network of organizations of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), a nationwide organization comprised of 50,000 members. Each year the club honors educators that serve as consistent mentors to students through research, teaching, and advocacy and are engaged in the mission of the AAF.
“It’s a true honor to receive this award. I am really lucky to be able to do what I love – teach and design – in great company,” said Carr. “I get to work with outstanding students and colleagues both in and out of the classroom through advising and professional development organizations such as the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the AAF/Ad Team, and the Public Relations Student Society of America.”
Carr holds an MFA in Graphic Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Aside from serving as the Media + Design Program Director, Carr is a Professor of Practice in Digital Design where she teaches courses such as Typography Studio and Branding & Semiotics. Before joining the faculty full-time, she taught as an adjunct instructor from 2007 to 2019. She was honored with the 2019 Emily Vokes Faculty Service Award.
A designer with more than 15 years of experience working alongside a variety of businesses and non-profit organizations, Carr brings a breadth of knowledge to her students both in and out of the classroom. She incorporates service-learning opportunities into the classroom which gives nonprofit partners access to design professionals, but also gives the students real-world examples. Carr also serves as the co-advisor for Tulane’s chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Artists group.
