Corey Guerra

Corey Guerra is a graphic designer, illustrator, and fine artist with training focused in both traditional and digital media. He was originally trained in studio art with a deep focus in oil painting utilizing the tradition of the old masters. Corey took a dive into the digital realm when he returned to school to earn his BA in Digital Design from Tulane University in 2019. After, he continued his educational pursuits by earning a MFA in Media Design from Full Sail University. His graduate education focused on branding and brand identity design across various forms of digital media, which was also the focus of his thesis.

In 2019, Corey began teaching in SoPA's Digital Design program. He began by teaching Digital Illustration using Adobe Illustrator and Digital Imaging using Adobe Photoshop. In 2020, he redesigned both courses' curricula and successfully integrated them into a fully in-person/online form using the Canvas Learning Management Software. This enabled these studio art type courses to be taught either fully in-person, fully online, or hybrid in a relatively seamless fashion. In 2021, Corey designed the curriculum for a new Advanced Illustration course that is offered once a year as an upper-level elective. This course focuses on merging illustration technique and processes with design thinking as a way achieve visual storytelling for target audiences. This course focuses on using Procreate with an iPad, which has become a highly utilized tool in media arts.

Aside from his academic pursuits, Corey owns and operates Corey Guerra Design. This boutique design firm is based in Mississippi and serves the entire Gulf South Region. Recent clients include The Mississippi Chorus, University of Southern Mississippi Spirit of Southern Choral Group, Mississippi Association of Choral Directors, La Petite Grocery, Tulane University, and the Sweet Mississippi Tea Festival.

Corey still enjoys traditional media and maintains a healthy oil painting practice in his home studio. He has shown his work in various local galleries, and his work is owned by collectors in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida. He is a member of the St. Tammany Art Association and occasionally teaches oil painting classes at the association's Art House Gallery in historic downtown Covington, LA.
