Program Overview
Tulane SoPA offers undergraduate, graduate, and certificate options in Education. These include coordinate majors in Elementary, Early Childhood, and Secondary Education; the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT); the Master of Education (MEd) with multiple specialization tracks; and graduate certificates in Teaching English Learners (TEL), Special Education (SPED), Education Leadership, and Learning Experience Design. Many of these programs meet Louisiana teacher licensure requirements.
Students can focus on areas such as Early Childhood Education (PreK–3), Elementary Education (Grades 1–5), Secondary Education (Grades 6–12), Teaching English Learners, Special Education, Education Leadership, and Learning Experience Design. These concentrations allow you to develop expertise in instructional methods, curriculum design, inclusive education, and education technology.
The undergraduate coordinate majors in Education and the Master of Arts in Teaching are designed to lead to Louisiana teacher certification for eligible candidates. Graduate certificates in Teaching English Learners and Special Education also align with the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) requirements for certification in those areas.
Tulane SoPA offers flexible learning options, including online teaching degrees, hybrid education programs, and select on-campus courses. Many programs are offered 100% online, while others include on-site components such as student teaching or residencies in partner schools.
Graduates can pursue roles as licensed classroom teachers, professional educators, curriculum specialists, instructional designers, education technology specialists, school administrators, and nonprofit education leaders. Specialization options also prepare graduates for roles in adult education, inclusive education, and leadership across K–12 and higher education settings.

Online Master's Degrees
Yes. Tulane SoPA offers the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) for prospective teachers seeking licensure and the Master of Education (MEd) for educators and professionals pursuing advanced roles in areas such as leadership, special education, or instructional design.
The MEd emphasizes educational leadership, curriculum design, instructional strategies, education technology, and research-based practice. Students can integrate a graduate certificate to deepen expertise in a chosen focus area. The MAT centers on preparing professional educators for K–12 classrooms, combining theory, curriculum planning, inclusive education strategies, and classroom management with hands-on teaching experience through a semester-long or year-long residency in a partner school.
Yes. Both master’s programs offer opportunities for specialization. MEd students can add graduate certificates in Education Leadership, Special Education, Teaching English Learners, or Learning Experience Design. MAT students may pursue certification areas in Early Childhood Education (PreK–3), Elementary Education (Grades 1–5), or Secondary Education (Grades 6–12), aligning coursework and residency experiences with their intended teaching field.
Yes. The MEd is offered 100% online with flexible scheduling, making it accessible for working educators and professionals. The MAT includes primarily online coursework but requires an in-person student teaching residency in a Louisiana school, allowing candidates to complete much of the program while continuing other work or teaching-related responsibilities.
Graduates may pursue roles such as school principal, district administrator, education nonprofit director, instructional coordinator, or higher education leader.
