Biography
Michael Wallace is a retired military intelligence officer with 20 years of active service. His military assignments included Naval Special Warfare, Defense Human Intelligence, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and the Office of Naval Intelligence. Post-military, he worked as a senior intelligence analyst in the Joint Chiefs of Staff Intelligence Directorate. He has experience in counter-terrorism, counter-proliferation, special warfare, and intelligence collection and analysis.
In June 2014, he became the Emergency and Security Studies Program director at Tulane University’s School of Professional Advancement. He is responsible for the academic administration of undergraduate, graduate, and certification programs in Homeland Security, Security Management, and Emergency Management; recruiting, hiring, and managing program faculty; developing and revising courses and curriculum; establishing and maintaining relationships in the private and public sectors; and serves as the senior academic advisor for all students and potential students. Dr. Wallace is a Senior Professor of Practice.
As the Emergency & Security Studies program has expanded, Dr. Wallace has developed and maintained relationships with many groups related to Homeland Security and Emergency Management, including the Homeland Security Institute, Naval Post Graduate School’s (NPS) Center for Homeland Defense and Security, the University and Agency Partnership Program (UAPP) for Homeland Security Education, InfraGard Louisiana, New Orleans Police Department Academic Research Advisory Committee, International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), ASIS, and Louisiana Emergency Preparedness Partnership.
Dr. Wallace is Co-Founder and Co-Director of Pracademic Affairs, part of Homeland Security Today's website, on the Homeland Security Today editorial board, and also on the Journal of Security, Intelligence, and Resilience Education review board. He has contributed to and been interviewed on international, national, and local media including the BBC and the History Channel.
He is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Naval Order of the United States, the Military Order of Foreign Wars, the Wounded Warrior Foundation, and the Disabled American Veterans. He is a member of the New Orleans Mayor’s Military Advisory Council and the New Orleans Military Coalition.
He holds a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Tulane University, a master's degree in Military History from the US Army Command and General Staff College, and a doctorate in Education from the University of Alabama.
