Student Scholarships at Tulane SoPA

Several scholarships are designated especially for SoPA students. See below for details about each scholarship, and how to apply. For more information, consult your advisor.

Brian and Jill Rowe Foundation Scholarship

Undergraduate students who are US military veterans or on active duty with the US military are eligible to apply for the Rowe scholarships.

 

Application Form (due by midnight on August 1, 2025)

The Brian and Jill Rowe Foundation Scholarships provide assistance for SoPA students who are U.S. military veterans or on active duty with the U.S. military, with preference given to those who have been injured in the line of duty.  Multiple awards are typically made.

Granader Family Scholarship

Awarded to SoPA graduate students pursuing the MAT or MEd degrees. Preference is given to those students with financial need who are in the Gulf South region. This is a Spring semester award.

 

Application form (due by midnight on January 4, 2026)

The Granader Scholarship assists graduate students in the School of Professional Advancement who are enrolled in the education program.  Preference is given in awarding to those applicants who demonstrate financial need and who are working in education in Louisiana or the Gulf South region.

Harrah's Scholarship

Awarded to undergraduate School of Professional Advancement students who contribute to the diversity of Tulane’s undergraduate population.

 

Application Form. (submission deadline is January 4, 2026)

Endowed through a generous gift from the Harrah’s Foundation, these scholarships support the education of students who contribute to the diversity of Tulane’s undergraduate student body.

To be eligible, a SoPA undergraduate student must:

  • Demonstrate academic merit (cumulative GPA of at least 3.4)
  • Have declared a major field of study
  • Have earned at least 30 credit hours through SoPA

This is a spring semester award. Award amounts vary, though $1,500 is typical. Multiple scholarships may be awarded in a single year. Recipients may reapply in subsequent years, provided that they maintain a 3.4 GPA and are continuously enrolled.

James Monaghan and Alana Bishop Monaghan Scholarship

Open to undergraduate students majoring or minoring in Homeland Security Studies.

 

Application Form (due by midnight on August 1, 2025)

The James and Alanna Bishop Monaghan Scholarship Fund supports School of Professional Advancement undergraduate students who have an officially declared major or minor in Homeland Security Studies.

This is a fall semester award. More than one scholarship may be awarded, depending on the availability of funds. To qualify, students with the requisite major or minor must demonstrate academic merit and financial need and submit a brief application, including a personal statement. The application is posted on this page in July annually, with a submission deadline in early August. Completed application forms may be submitted via email or hand delivered to any SoPA campus location.

Jane Lewis Wolfe Scholarship

Awarded to an undergraduate student with financial need in the School of Professional Advancement.

The Jane Lewis Wolfe Scholarship assists Tulane School of Professional Advancement undergraduate, degree-seeking students who are in financial need.

Louis E. Barrilleaux Scholarships for Alpha Sigma Lambda Members

Eligible undergraduate students must be members or newly invited to join Alpha Sigma Lambda, the national honor society for part-time students.

 

The Louis E. Barrilleaux Scholarships are funded by the Davenport Family Fund, an endowed fund created through the generosity of the late Joseph W. Davenport, Jr., SoPA ’66. Davenport was inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda as an undergraduate. A strong proponent of lifelong learning, Davenport subsequently earned an MBA from Loyola University and a JD from the University of Georgia. The scholarships are named in honor of the late University College Dean Louis E. Barrilleaux, who served as dean from 1981 to 1996. Additional gifts from Davenport and Barrilleaux’s friends and family and SoPA alumni continue to support the scholarship fund.

To be eligible, students must be continuing members of Alpha Sigma Lambda, the national honor society for part-time college students, or newly invited to join ASL. Number and amount of scholarships awarded varies each year, with the average award totaling $1,000. Recipients will be notified via their Tulane email addresses. Scholarship funds will be posted to the recipient’s Tulane account. Overall academic merit, earned credit hours at School of Professional Advancement, and the quality of each applicant’s written personal statement are factored into the selection committee’s decision.
