Biography
Trey Bickham, Ph.D., MS, MSW, BS is currently a Senior Analytics Consultant at Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC; Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans of IL, MT, NM, OK, & TX) in Richardson, TX. As a native son of south Louisiana, Trey earned all of his degrees at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge where he became passionate about data, statistics, analytics, coding, and software configuration.
While he was a Master of Social Work student, Trey became enamored with data and statistics in a research methodology course wherein he first learned about basic data types and elementary statistics to derive inferences from data. He wrote a Master’s thesis to find basic correlations between state-level political ideology and the states’ legislative responses to payday lending. Becoming further enamored with data and statistics, Trey and his colleagues collected data on approximately 1,200 Louisiana bankruptcy filers, analyzed the data, and wrote 6 published peer-reviewed journal articles about payday lending use and other debt accruals among the bankruptcy filers as well as service-learning pedagogy. Trey remained enrolled in graduate studies to complete a Ph.D. in Social Work in May 2016: He studied the relationship between the ownership of financial assets and their direct impact on financial well-being, as well as how the ownership of financial assets promotes optimism about the future which then subsequently also impacts financial well-being.
After completing his Ph.D., Trey became intrigued with software configuration during his employment as HR Analyst at the College of Engineering at LSU. His responsibilities included processing HR transactions for numerous employees in Workday, teaching others to use Workday, and advocating for improvements in efficiency in LSU’s instance of Workday. During this time, Trey decided to pursue a Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) degree from the E.J. Ourso College of Business at LSU.
Before even graduating from the MSA Program, Trey was hired as People Analytics Consultant on the People Analytics & Insights Team at HCSC in Richardson, TX, a northern suburb of Dallas. At HCSC, Trey built Tableau Dashboards for Total Cost of Labor, Employee Rewards, Talent Acquisition, and other HR Centers of Excellence. He also ran regression models to ensure compensation equity and equality amongst different classes of employees. Trey’s flagship project, which ultimately saw him promoted to Senior People Analytics Consultant after only a year-and-a-half of employment, was the Workday-to-Microsoft SQL Server Integration. HCSC had been utilizing PeopleSoft as their human resources information system and was transitioning to the cloud-based Workday platform. Trey led the effort to suspend the data feeds from PeopleSoft to the SQL Server and to re-write stored procedures to ingest approximately 15 new data files from Workday to the SQL Server, ensuring data consistency and preventing data outages. Trey has since built dashboards for the Medicare and Medicaid side of the business at HCSC and has been working on Program Evaluation efforts.
Trey spends his time between Dallas and his home–where his heart truly resides–in south Louisiana with his family and longtime friends. When Trey is not eating crawfish, gumbo, or jambalaya, he is likely travelling, watching television, cheering for the LSU Tigers Football Team, or planespotting (i.e., watching aircraft take-off or land) live at airports or via Youtube videos.
