Robyn Ice

Robyn Ice, J.D., M.F.A., is a Senior Professor of Practice and Director of the General Legal Studies and Business and Leadership Studies Programs at Tulane University’s School of Professional Advancement, where she also teaches the GLS Practicum course. Ms. Ice serves as Chair of the Approval Commission for the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Paralegals and regularly speaks at national and regional conferences of the American Association for Paralegal Education. Before joining Tulane in 2014, Ms. Ice practiced environmental and toxic tort law for 23 years, first in Atlanta and then in New York City, including twelve years as a partner with the firms Alston & Bird, LLC, Rosenberg & Estis, P.C., and Troutman Sanders, LLC; and four as in-house counsel with Zurich Insurance.

Professor Ice’s practice that included advising Fortune 500 companies in nationwide corporate compliance, crisis management, transactional due diligence, employee training, defense of state and federal enforcement actions, and other business-related matters.  She also was responsible for hiring and training new attorneys and other employees to succeed and develop rewarding careers. In addition, she served as an adjunct instructor in environmental law at Emory University’s Robert Goizueta Executive MBA Program and Georgia State University College of Law. She also wrote and spoke widely on a variety of environmental topics and developed and taught continuing legal education and litigation skills training programs for law firms and bar associations.

Throughout her career, Ms. Ice has been an active participant in pro bono legal and community service organizations, earning the first annual Alston Award for outstanding community service simultaneously with her promotion to partner. While serving as Pro Bono Partner in Alston & Bird’s New York office, she developed and staffed a legal clinic at a Bronx housing project. She has represented clients in the Bet Tzedek Ghetto Reparations Project for Holocaust survivors, Human Rights First Asylum Project, inMotion, the Truancy Intervention Project, Atlanta Legal Aid, 1000 Lawyers for Justice. In New Orleans, she initiated the GLS Program’s relationship with Dress for Success and established SoPA as a DFS referral agency for all students.

Ms. Ice received her B.F.A. from West Virginia University, magna cum laude; M.F.A. from the University of Georgia; and J.D., cum laude, from Georgia State University College of Law, where she served as Editor in Chief of the Georgia State University Law Review. She also served as research assistant to Torts Professor David Maleski, with whom she authored two chapters of the treatise Georgia Tort Law. Before entering law school, Ms. Ice performed as a puppeteer and designed costumes and puppets for theatre and television for over a decade.

In her spare time, Ms. Ice enjoys family, movies, and travel. These interests frequently blend, but they melded most successfully when she and her son took a midnight train to Transylvania and visited Dracula’s castle during a lightning storm.
