Becky has taught political science, homeland security, and emergency management courses since 1995 in both classroom and online settings. She retired from the US Army after nearly 22 years, subsequently working with the Department of Defense, FEMA and several universities the past 12 years. She holds a Doctor of Management in Homeland Security, a Master of Arts in Political Science, and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. She and her husband, Ralph and family have a hobby farm with 22 rescue animals.

What advice would you give to someone who's considering finishing their degree, or starting for the first time as an adult?
Be fearless! Fear is the one factor that gets in the way of folks achieving their goals and pursuing their dreams. Keep your eye on your objectives and maintain a steady course. By following your plan and staying excited about your future, you can accomplish anything… Truly!

What is your favorite thing about SoPA?
SoPA permits and encourages practitioners and those who seek new professions, to blend academic excellence with career exploration and development! SoPA celebrates the professional who seeks education and embraces the life experience and perspectives of folks that draw from, and apply to, real world capabilities.

What's the first career you dreamed of having as a child?
I remember producing an essay in 4th grade detailing why I wanted to be a teacher. Today, I could use the same components I employed back then to describe my continued love of teaching!
