Biography
Dr. Morkeith Phillips was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Phillips received his first opportunity to work with kids at the Dryades YMCA as a summer camp counselor in Central City, New Orleans. While growing up in Central City after graduated from John McDonough Senior High School. Dr. Phillips went on to achieve a lifelong goal of attending Southern University A&M College. During his time as a jaguar, he became a member of the world-renowned Southern University’s “Human Juke Box” Marching band. During his time in college, he transferred to Southern University at New Orleans, where he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. While a student at SUNO, Dr. Phillips mentored young men at Sophie B. Wright High School. During his years as a mentor, he discovered his passion for helping young people. Since then, Dr. Phillips has worked with youth in various capacities in positions in alternative schools, youth detention centers, Trio Upward Bound, and currently as the Executive Director of Russel Honore’ Center for Undergraduate Student Achievement.
While his academic background is in Business, holding a B.A., M.B.A., and a PhD. From the Nelson Mandela School of Government and Social Sciences, Dr. Phillips’s passion for helping young people reach their full potential is still burning strong. An engaged education leader, experienced in student engagement, enrichment, and success with a focus on college degree attainment. Dr. Phillips coined a phrase that states, “If you expose kids to success, they can succeed.”
