Dr. Flanagan joined the School of Professional Advancement as an adjunct faculty in 2020 before joining the Kinesiology Department in 2021 as a Professor of Practice.
After completing his degrees in Exercise Physiology at the University of Miami, Dr. Flanagan served as the Undergraduate Program Director in Exercise Physiology at Ave Maria University in Naples, Florida. Overseeing the fastest growing major on campus, he designed the curriculum and developed the Laboratory of Applied Physiology and Human Performance. At Tulane, Dr. Flanagan teaches courses across the spectrum of kinesiology, specifically those exploring the form and function of the human body.
Outside of the classroom, Craig serves as the Director of Product Science at Healthsnap, a virtual health company derived from his work at the University of Miami. There, he helps develop and implement chronic disease prevention solutions into clinical settings.
Craig lives in Baton Rouge with his wife, Emily, a researcher at Pennington Biomedical Research Center, and the fluffiest of snugglers, Scout and Kitty Kitty.
Who has influenced you most in life?
I've been blessed to have had positive role models at every stage. Most influential are my parents. Both elementary school teachers, my mom, Lisa, couldn't be more inspiring, thoughtful, and warm while my dad, Steve, has always been a super-fan of all that I've chosen to pursue. Right now he's probably dressed head to toe in Tulane gear in our small Pennsylvania town explaining to strangers the joys of bonfires on the levee and turducken.
What are your favorite activities when you are not working?
Since moving to Louisiana, I think this answer has to be exploring the state’s food culture. In turn, Emily and I have taken up cycling, pilates, and cooking delicious healthy recipes while grooving to great music.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
I’ve always wanted to eat my way through Europe to assess different culture’s relationships with food.
