Biography
Christa Payne is Interim Dean of Tulane University's School of Professional Advancement, where she provides executive leadership for one of the university's ten schools. With more than 25 years of leadership experience, she has led institutional growth through academic innovation, strategic planning, enrollment management, finance, technology, and operations.
Throughout her career, Christa has focused on helping organizations grow in ways that strengthen both their mission and their long-term sustainability. Her experience spans higher education, nonprofit leadership, workforce development, philanthropy, consulting, and private industry, giving her a broad perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing today's colleges and universities.
Since joining Tulane, Christa has advised the school's leadership and led the operational infrastructure, establishing the teams, processes, and systems needed to support enrollment growth, academic innovation, and long-term success. As Interim Dean, she has led initiatives to innovate online and professional education, redesign academic programs, modernize technology and operations, strengthen enrollment and student support, in order to position the school for sustainable growth.
Christa is known for bringing together academic and administrative leaders to solve complex challenges and turn strategy into action. She believes the strongest institutions combine academic excellence with sound business practices, collaborative leadership, and a willingness to adapt as higher education evolves.
She is passionate about expanding access to high-quality education for working adults and nontraditional learners and believes universities have a responsibility to meet students where they are while preparing them for where they want to go. Her work is guided by the belief that innovation, strong partnerships, and thoughtful stewardship can create opportunities for students while ensuring institutions remain strong for the future.
