Biography
I am a career law enforcement officer and retired at the rank of police captain after 25 years of service. After retiring, I served as interim director of the Southern Regional Public Safety Institute and as the Regional Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) coordinator for the southern region of Mississippi. Now, I am a full-time professor. My educational background includes a Ph.D. in urban studies (University of New Orleans, 2014), an M.A. in sociology (Tulane University, 1998), graduate work in public administration (University of New Orleans, 1994-1996), a J.D. (Tulane Law School, 1985), and a B.A. in history (Newcomb College, 1982). I am an attorney member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and a professional law enforcement instructor through the Mississippi Board of Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training. I hold numerous certifications in multiple law enforcement and emergency response areas of expertise. In 2008, I was named a Top Ten Female Achiever by New Orleans Magazine, and I received numerous awards and proclamations over the years from the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana for exemplary service.
