Biography
Dr. Ambika Prasad is an educator and scholar specializing in Leadership, Organizational Behavior, and Human Resource Management. She holds a PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of North Texas and completed postdoctoral research in Organizational Behavior at the Geis College of Business, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Before transitioning to academia, she served for seven years in a senior role with the Indian Revenue Service and contributed to HR consulting projects in the United States.
At Tulane University, Dr. Prasad integrates experiential learning into her teaching. She introduced service-learning components into the HR curriculum, enabling students to collaborate with New Orleans community organizations on business and HR-related projects. She also teaches incarcerated women through SOPA’s College-in-Prison program. Additionally, she served as a Posse mentor for New Orleans Tulane Posse 6, guiding students with varied life experiences throughout their academic journey. The Posse program is nationally recognized for its comprehensive support of students at partner universities and colleges.
Dr. Prasad’s research focuses on the social aspects of workplace dynamics and the role of information technologies in organizations. Specifically, her work explores workplace stereotyping, stereotype threat, and virtual teams. Passionate about organizational effectiveness, she conducts pro bono workshops and speaks on related topics. She serves on the Board of Directors for Operation Restoration, which supports women impacted by incarceration, and the Board of Directors for the New Orleans Chapter of SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management).
Beyond her professional commitments, Dr. Prasad embraces creativity and culture. She enjoys interior decoration, fresh flowers, and reading history. An avid poetry enthusiast, she has a deep appreciation for Urdu and Hindi poetry. As a New Orleans resident, she cherishes the city’s vibrant music and cultural scene. She also volunteers as a docent at the New Orleans Museum of Art, offering weekend tours to visitors and deepening her connection to the city’s artistic heritage.
