SoPA faculty member wins Tulane funding prize

Hazel Woods, PhD, professor of practice and associate director of the Education Program at the Tulane School of Professional Advancement, was honored Friday, November 1, during Tulane’s Research, Scholarship, and Artistic Achievement Awards dinner and ceremony.

Woods received the 2024 Funding Award in the Non-STEM category for her work securing a $10 million SEED grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Two funding awards are given each year — one in STEM and the other Non-STEM — “to recognize the artist/scholar/investigator…who has been awarded the largest combined dollar amount of funding for direct costs during the prior calendar year.

“I am honored to be recognized for the work we’re doing in Tulane SoPA’s Education Program,” said Woods. “Our focus remains to strengthen the pipeline of teachers in our local schools. This includes supporting teachers in the classroom and giving educators the tools they need to increase student achievement and overall growth.”

Woods’s reach to secure funding continues to expand. She was also instrumental in a new $8 million Department of Education grant that was awarded to SoPA’s Education Program, along with several partners, this fall.
