Biography
Trung Nguyen is a Professor of Practice in the PreK-12 Education Program at Tulane University. He earned his Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from the Pennsylvania State University and currently teaches early childhood literacy and social studies methods courses. Prior to coming to Tulane, Dr. Nguyen was an Assistant Professor of Elementary Education at McNeese State University. He has taught elementary school for two years in Katy, TX and for four years here in New Orleans.
One of Dr. Nguyen’s favorite quotes is: "Teachers need to see themselves as both responsible for and capable of challenging and altering an educational system that is not adequately serving large numbers of children, particularly poor children, children of color, and children with special needs” (Agarwal-Rangnath, 2013). Dedicated to social justice and equity, he works with future and current teachers to identify and disrupt inequitable policies and practices within education to ensure that every student has access to a high-quality education. Dr. Nguyen also serves on the Executive Committee for the Louisiana Chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Education (LA-NAME), which seeks to cultivate an awareness of diversity, equity, and social justice within our educational systems and communities. LA-NAME works for positive social change across our state.
