Biography
Hazel Spaulding Parker began her educational path as a first-grade classroom teacher in New Jersey. During the past 23 years in New Orleans, she has strengthened her knowledge about culture, community, and collaboration through work in a variety of educational settings with young children, adult learners, and college students. Her experiences with non-profits, K-12 systems, and universities provide Dr. Parker with a broad, inclusive perspective about teaching and learning. Her interests include early literacy, reading development, educational resilience, and meaningful student-teacher interactions. Hazel holds both a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and a M.Ed. in Developmental Reading from the College of New Jersey. She also holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a minor in Urban Studies from the University of New Orleans.
