Biography
A native New Orleanian, Dr. Brad Philipson has been the Oscar J. Tolmas Head of School at Jewish Community Day School of Greater New Orleans (JCDS) since July 2019. Prior to arriving at JCDS, Brad worked at Young Audiences Charter School (LA), Fort Worth Country Day School (TX), Casady School (OK), and Metairie Park Country Day School (LA). He has participated in fellowships with the Day School Leadership Training Institute, Israel’s Herzog College, and the Greater New Orleans Foundation, and he will serve as a Head of School Fellow with Teacher’s College Columbia’s Klingenstein Institute in 2026.
Brad holds an interdisciplinary PhD in Sociocultural Adolescent Development from Tulane, an MFA in Fiction from the University of New Orleans, an MA in English and Creative Writing from Hollins University, and a BA in Public Policy from Washington & Lee University. He also serves on the boards of the Leona Tate Foundation for Change and the Anti-Defamation League (South Central Region). Brad lives in Broadmoor with his wife, daughter, and two dogs, and he is an avid fan of Tulane athletics.
