Student Support and Success Newsletter

Welcome from the Assistant Dean for Student Support and Success

Vanessa Rodriguez

Dear SoPA Students,

It's March and spring has at least peeked its head around the corner. With the promise of a new season on the horizon and the positive effects of our community's COVID prevention efforts coming to fruition, I am feeling a renewed sense of determination. I hope you are too. Many of you are likely preparing for midterms. As you do so, we encourage you to stay communicative with your professors and fellow students. They are meaningful resources in addition to your academic advisor. For those students who plan on graduating at the end of this semester, don't forget to turn in your graduation application as soon as possible. As always, we are here to help. Don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Staff Spotlight: Alexis Stone, Senior Academic Advisor

Alexis Stone

Alexis is a Senior Academic Advisor at SoPA, she advises undecided Undergraduate students and guides them toward a permanent program of study as well as students declared in the Public Relations and Digital Media and Marketing. Alexis earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Xavier University of Louisiana and a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from Loyola University of New Orleans. Alexis comes to SoPA with 10 plus years of experience in higher education in a variety of roles. She has worked as an academic advisor since 2012. In her spare time, she enjoys watching movies, discovering new music and going to Saints games.

Alexis says to her undecided students, "It's okay to be unsure on a major right now. For many students, your major is not necessarily going to be your career. Some majors prepare students with transferable skills that can be used in many fields. Use this time to explore your options and discover your interests."
