Celebrating Two Years of Academic & Professional Growth at the Tulane School of Professional Advancement

At the Tulane School of Professional Advancement, we’ve been busy in the last two years since launching our new name and brand. Building on a legacy of serving working professionals and non-traditional learners dating back to the 1880s, the inception of the School of Professional Advancement marked much more than a change in name. In order to realize our mission to serve a diverse population with high-quality, career-focused degree programs, we expanded our full-time faculty from 4 to 22. Along with that expansion came major changes to our degree and academic offerings.

Transforming Degrees for Student Success

In order to increase student engagement and flexibility, we revamped four master’s degree programs by adding capstone and online courses, in addition to strengthening the rigor and instruction. Our new Portfolio Credit program now gives undergraduate students the opportunity to earn up to 24 credits and graduate students up to 6 credits for their previous work and life experiences.

By building a community of online learners, students at SoPA can learn when and where they want and earn their degrees without putting their job or life on hold. As such, we have launched three new master’s degree programs and five new graduate certificate programs all available entirely online.

In addition to an emphasis on online learning, we have evolved our programs to focus on in-demand industries and careers that can increase earning potential for our students. This includes the launch of a new Digital Design program featuring a Bachelor of Arts degree and certificates built around career tracks in Graphic Design, Game Art and Animation, and Interactive Design. Our Paralegal Studies program expanded to be the General Legal Studies program, while our Homeland Security Studies program expanded to include multiple degree options through our Emergency and Security program. Finally, we revised and expanded our Applied Computing Systems and Technology program to be the Information Technology Program.

Here’s an overview of our full offerings:

  • Six 100% online master’s degrees, plus one master’s degree available through online & on-campus combined courses
  • Nine bachelor’s degree programs
  • 298+ courses available in online and on-campus formats
  • Eight distinct programs of study built around in-demand industries

Accolades That Prove Academic Rigor

The Tulane School of Professional Advancement offers the assured value of an internationally known academic institution. Since our launch, SoPA has celebrated several key awards and achievements. Our Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Security Studies was named “Best Online Master’s Degree in Homeland Security for Intelligence Officers” in 2019 by onlinemasters.com. We were also ranked by thebestschools.org as one of the best online master’s programs in Homeland Security in 2017 and 2018.

In addition to our program success, our students have also been recognized for their accomplishments. SoPA students from the Digital Design program recently earned two district ADDY awards and 24 local ADDY awards from the American Advertising Federation.
