Message from the Assistant Dean of Student Support and Success

Dear SoPA students,

I hope that those of you in the Gulf Coast region are well and recovering from the effects of Hurricane Ida.  In times like this, I am especially thankful to be a part of the SoPA community.  Students, faculty, and staff from all over the country have stepped up in dozens of ways to support each other.  With classes going full steam ahead again we want to remind you of resources and programming currently available.

We have an additional emergency aid program and three special events scheduled this week – one focused on financial aid, where you can get your specific questions answered one-on-one, and two “town halls” with Dean Suri Duitch, where you’ll hear a general update on the university and SoPA’s plans going forward, and also be able to ask questions. Here is information for each:

Emergency aid requests for technology and internet
SoPA has set aside additional emergency funds for students affected by Hurricane Ida.  Qualified students may submit for reimbursement of expenses for amounts up to $250 related to technology or internet access needed for classes. Click here to submit a request.

SoPA Student Town Hall – Tuesday, September 21, at 12:00 P.M. Central with Dean Suri Duitch. Join via Zoom

SoPA Student Town Hall – Wednesday, September 22, at 5:00 P.M. Central with Dean Suri Duitch. Join via Zoom

Computer & Internet Access at Elmwood
Some students in the region still do not have reliable internet access. While the Uptown campus is still closed to students for repairs, we are able to host you at the Elmwood campus Monday September 20, through Wednesday, September 22, from 8:30 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. so that you may attend your online classes.  Please bring headphones and be aware that you may need to share space with others.

Warmly,

Vanessa
