Jack Jernigan has taught “Legal Aspects of Business” at SoPA for many years.
Mr. Jernigan received his B.A. from the University of Florida in 1980 and his Juris Doctor from the George Washington University in Washington DC in 1983. He has been in private law practice since 1984 and currently runs The Jernigan Law Firm, LLC, located in downtown New Orleans. He has practiced in the areas of consumer and small business bankruptcy, and personal injury for over 30 years, and is a long standing member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the National Academy for Consumer Bankruptcy Education, and the American Bankruptcy Institute. Mr. Jernigan has been named “Best Bankruptcy Attorney” by New Orleans Magazine. He is licensed to practice in Louisiana and Florida.
What is the best advice you've ever received?
Learn to listen. Do not feel obligated to have an opinion on everything.
What is your favorite thing about SoPA?
SOPA is available to everyone, especially in this age of online education.
What's the first career you dreamed of having as a child?
Since the first time I watched Perry Mason in black and white as a child, I was hooked. I did not end up being a criminal defense attorney, but was shocked to learn witnesses rarely confess on the witness stand!
