From the Field: A Discussion from Local Charter School Educators

Online

You are invited to Education in a Diverse Society Speaker Series this spring semester, hosted by Tulane School of Professional Advancement's Teacher Preparation and Certification Program and the Center for Public Service. Register to join us on Thursday, February 4 at 5:00pm Central time for From the Field: A Discussion from Local Charter School Educators to learn more about this year in transition at schools.

This interactive discussion will be led by two local and experienced charter school educators, Michelle Williamson and Sophie Guirard (alumna of Tulane SoPA Teacher Preparation & Certification Program). They will provide insight from their own journeys in education while sharing the challenges and successes of this unique year. This informal discussion encourages questions from students, educators and the community. Denise Woltering Vargas, Senior Program Manager of Tulane’s Stone Center for Latin American Studies, will moderate the session.

Education has changed dramatically since the Spring of 2020. Amid a global pandemic, the killing of George Floyd, the social unrest that followed, the volatile political climate and more, teachers have continued to adjust to an ever-changing educational environment with the challenge of finding how best to teach and support young learners. The Education in a Diverse Society Speaker Series is designed to explore some of the topics impacting education in New Orleans from multiple perspectives. You will hear from educators, activists, Orleans Parish School Board members, and parents as they share unique insight into the state of education in New Orleans today.  This series is an effort to provide a better understanding of the evolving state of education as well as to learn how to contribute to improving it in meaningful ways.
