Chastian “Choose” Taurman has worked with businesses and academia since leaving the Army as a Captain in the early 1970’s. In 1976, he earned his MBA at the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University, starting his business career with a local entrepreneur who owned oil and gas properties, manufacturing companies, and multi-family real estate developments as troubleshooter and CFO of the creosote and furniture manufacturing company. Choose worked as VP of Marketing for DigiCourse, a company owned by Laitram Corporation, developing markets for its digital compass in the global seismographic and NATO-Allied military areas. Choose and his wife then founded and operated Systems Instrumentation & Automation (SIA), a distributor of Honeywell automation equipment and integrator of instrumentation and automation equipment servicing the petrochemical industry. Choose and Liz sold the business in 1999.
In academia, Choose has worked as Assistant Dean of the AB Freeman School of Business, served on the Board of Governors for GMAT and TOEFL (Test of English as a Second Language) Council, taught marketing classes for University College, and served as Director of Business Studies, managing the curriculum and a faculty of 55 members teaching accounting, finance, business statistics, business law, management and leadership, human resource management, business ethics, marketing, advertising, and real estate. During his time at SoPA, he served as Chair of the Faculty Fellows Nominating Committee, the Vokes Award Committee, member of the Senate Athletic Committee, and a university liaison with public and private schools in the greater New Orleans area. During his time at Tulane, he received the 2017 Emily Vokes award for service, as well as a Distinguished Teaching award.
As a real estate developer, he has participated in a condo conversion in the French Quarter and redevelopment of a 183-unit apartment complex in New Orleans and repurposed an office building in the New Orleans Central Business District. After Hurricane Katrina, Choose and a business partner co-founded two angel funds in southern Louisiana, with networking assistance from the Notre Dame Irish Angels and the PAN Fund in Greensboro, NC. He has served as co-chair of the Capital Access SIG for the Louisiana Technology Council, a member of the GNO Digital Media Alliance Inventory of Capital Sources, and as a member of the New Orleans 9 Most Endangered Sites Committee. He has chaired the finance committee of Christ Church in Covington, LA, and served on the board of managers for Prima Health.
