
Biography
Patricia Bethancourt graduated cum laude from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 1991. She began practicing defense law primarily in the area of healthcare and medical malpractice litigation for the New Orleans’ based firm of Jones, Walker, Waechter, Poitevent, Carrere & Denegre, then as In House Counsel for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, followed by a term with an insurance defense firm in Metairie, before commencing employment as Associate General Counsel for Tulane University, located at the Tulane University Health Sciences Center. During more than twenty years at Tulane she has primarily represented and defended the medical school faculty, residents, and other healthcare employees in matters of medical malpractice litigation, procurement of insurance coverage under Louisiana law, and advised on numerous and varied medical-legal topics. Since 2012 she has taught Litigation 1 in the General Legal Studies program.

What's the first career you dreamed of having as a child?
A doctor; and in high school, as I understood more about the profession, I wanted to be a pathologist.
What are your favorite activities when you are not working?
Entertaining and spending time with family and friends and travel, particularly to international venues I have yet to visit.
