
Biography
Karen Raborn has worked in the healthcare technology industry for the past 30 years where she has seen and experienced a total transformation of this field. Her focus has been on helping physicians and medical practices better utilize technology and software to improve practice efficiency and patient care.
Over the years, Mrs. Raborn has gained expertise in a variety of areas including computer programming, training, systems design, technical support, applied computing, procurement, and operations management. She is currently employed by one of the top 5 vendors of healthcare solutions for ambulatory practices, and is responsible for 200+ clients in a 4-state area.
After receiving her Master’s Degree, Mrs. Raborn accepted an adjunct professor position at Concordia University, where she was part of a team of instructors teaching computer technology and fundamentals to Vietnamese students through an interpreter. It was challenging but also very rewarding work.
Mrs. Raborn joined Tulane in 2001 as an adjunct professor. She has taught a variety of courses including fundamentals of IT, entry-level and advanced courses in MS Office Suite, Help Desk administration, and Training administration. Her commitment to Tulane’s SoPA program is mirrored in her love of educating working adults, and helping them to advance their careers and enhance their knowledge of computers in the workplace.
When not teaching, Mrs. Raborn enjoys sewing, reading, church activities and spending as much time as she can with her family.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
The Anchor holds. Just hang on, because if you have a firm foundation, then the Anchor will hold through any storm.
If you could be on any reality TV show, which would you choose and why?
Chopped - I would certainly lose, but the experience would be amazing
