What are your favorite activities when you are not working?
When I'm not working, I'm having a lot of great times with my husband, family, friends, and my dog "Koukla." We all are very active. My husband and I have played in Celtic bands for years where I play the bodhran (Irish frame drum) and he plays the pipes. Our current band is called "Blarney Coast." We also love to dance and teach Greek and Bulgarian dances. Of course, we go to all of the Greek festivals possible. Traveling has always been important, with several trips to Greece, a nice long visit last summer to Ireland (where I attended bodhran and sean nos dancing workshops) and Scotland. We sing in the Byzantine choir at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Biloxi.
What is your favorite thing about SoPA?
The students are my most favorite things about SoPA. They are very talented, intelligent, witty, interesting, caring, hard workers, and bring interesting topics up for discussion about our topics. My students inspire me and motivate me to help them learn as much as possible about global concerns and issues that are related to our course content.
What advice would you give to someone who's considering finishing their degree, or starting for the first time as an adult?
There is nothing like a life of adventure! Returning to school and/or completing a degree provides endless ways to inspire and motivates oneself to explore the world and self at deeper levels than if not encouraged to do more. There are great benefits from higher educational adventures!
