Amanda Hassan is a Senior Academic Advisor at SoPA, advising students in the MPS programs for Homeland Security Studies, Emergency Management and Security Management. She has been working at Tulane since January 2016, and came to SoPA in July 2018. Previously, Ms. Hassan was an Academic Coordinator at the A.B. Freeman School of Business. Prior to working at Tulane, she was an Academic Advisor and Disability Services Coordinator at Delgado Community College in New Orleans for over 4 years.
Ms. Hassan earned a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) at Tulane University School of Social Work in 2007 and a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2004. Prior to her career in higher education, Ms. Hassan worked as a Social Worker for inpatient and outpatient mental health hospital programs. Ms. Hassan was a specialist in case management and mental health for over 8 years until she found her passion for academia in 2011.
Ms. Hassan has an entrepreneur spirit. She previously owned an event planning business. Currently, it is still a hobby for her.
Ms. Hassan was born and raised in New Orleans. She has an incredibly smart and energetic son, Aiden.
What are your favorite activities when you are not working?
When I am not working I love to hang out with my son. We go to the movies, the park and bounce house places. I also enjoy spending time with my friends, baking and doing arts and crafts.
What's the first career you dreamed of having as a child?
I wanted to be a pediatrician when I was a child and as a teenager wanted to be a pharmacist.
Who has influenced you most in life?
My mom has influenced me the most. She is a very strong woman and was dedicated to me and my brother. She has always taught me to be myself and to not be afraid to try things and to never give up. She has instilled in me that it is never too late for anything and has pushed me to become the woman I am today. I am so grateful for the woman she is and strive to be as strong
